St Mary’s extended Garden of Remembrance

People will have noticed a great deal of work going on in St Mary’s churchyard across the summer. By the time that the September BiC is published, we hope that the work will be very nearly completed.

We have outgrown our existing (small) Garden of Remembrance, where ashes are interred, and are extending it to cover all of the area to the North of the East gate and to the East of the path leading up to the doorway to the church offices. There will be a new York stone path in the area, and a bench with a central position for quiet contemplation.

In addition to the interment of ashes, it will be possible for people to have a memory of their loved ones with a simple inscription on the York stone path, such as “JOHN WILMINGTON 1900-2000”.

We’ll make this service available to anyone with a connection with St Mary’s: it won’t be limited to those whose ashes are interred in the Garden.
At the same time as creating the extended Garden, we are upgrading, from gravel to York stone, the main West – East path from the South door to the East gate, and also its spur path to the church office. It is planned to conclude this path with a disabled-friendly ramp up to the office door.

Anyone who wants to know more about our plans, or is interested in having the name of a loved one inscribed in the path in the extended Garden of Remembrance, please contact St Mary’s at office@stmarybarnes.org.
