"Children for Children - Kit for Kids"

An Event in aid of "Under Tree Schools" Charity, Southern Sudan Saturday, 12th of January 2008, 10:00am - 1:00pm, Kitson Hall

What is it all about?

We want to raise awareness for the Under Tree Schools and the children's daily lives there and raise funds for the Under Tree Schools. We want to involve Barnes children from our churches in the community in creating and organising the event, enabling them to make a more personal link with the Under Tree Schools and empowering them to help other kids.

How will this work?

We will

  • hold a second hand high quality children's clothes, equipment and toys sale (including unwanted Christmas gifts!)
  • have information displays (photos, texts, DVD etc) on the Under Tree Schools (including letters, pictures etc from the Under Tree Schools kids)
  • have activities like story telling, face painting, hair braiding etc, most of them related to the theme of the Under Tree Schools and Southern Sudan
  • Sudanese tastes and simple food, and music
  • rent out tables to local children-related business for a fee of £40 (and a voluntary donation)

Short background

Under Tree Schools (Charity no 1117679) supports education in Southern Sudan.

After 4 decades of war, Southern Sudan suffers from severe loss of education and mass illiteracy. UTS has offered education during the war, literally under trees in order to be able to be packed into bags and re-established elsewhere. As peace has now come, a permanent school is being built.

The project is currently raising funds to complete the school in Malek. Long-term plans include adult education as well as vocational, health and agricultural training.

Joseph (who is Sudanese) and Karin Ayok-Loewenberg have worked for over 17 years amongst Sudanese refugees in East Africa, Egypt and London. They have established this project in 2000. They now live with their daughters in Barnes where Joseph is a hon. clergy of the three Anglicans Churches, the Barnes Team ministry.
