For our prayers

The 'covenant' or mutual promise which all the local churches have signed commits us to work together and to pray for each other. It's also part of our Christian task to pray for the community of which we're part. So we publish here some suggestions for your own private prayers. It may be suitable to include them also in public worship, but this is a decision for each church.

Week beginning 7th May
Pray for our local primary schools – pupils, teaching and support staff, and members of governing bodies. Remembering that Christ himself was known as Teacher, and that he spoke of little children, you may like to remember by name particularly children and adults in these schools who are part of your own family or church.

Week beginning 14th May
Pray for health workers in our community – doctors, surgery staff, nurses, dentists, health visitors, midwives. Remembering that Christ was frequently called to heal the sick, you may like to remember by name particularly those who care for you or your family, such as your own doctor.

Week beginning 21st May
Pray for St Osmund's Roman Catholic Church, Castlenau – for the parish priest Fr Tony Logan, for all who assist at Mass or who lead the music, for the activities of the church, and for members of the congregation. You may like to remember by name anyone you know personally who is part of the St Osmund's community.

Week beginning 28th May
Pray for those who serve the local wards as newly-elected councillors, and for our MP, Susan Kramer. Pray for all who serve our Borough through their political parties. You may like to remember by name those in your Christian community who serve in this way.

Week beginning 4th June
Pray for our local secondary schools, both state and fee-paying, their teaching staffs, students and all whose work enables the process of education to continue – support staff and governing bodies. You may like to remember by name pupils or adults known to you in your family or congregation who are involved in these schools.

Week beginning 11th June
Pray for those who in the past have been part of this community, but have now moved away. You may like to remember by name those you know from your street or your church who have left Barnes, especially if they have particular need.

Week beginning 18th June
Pray for Barnes Methodist Church, for its minister, the Revd Veronica Faulks, who is shortly to retire, for its Stewards in their task of leadership, its musicians and all who help to lead worship. You may like to remember by name anyone you know personally who is part of the Methodist congregation.

Week beginning 25th June
Pray for the Barnes Community Association as the annual Fair approaches. Pray for all the clubs and groups which help to enliven and enrich the life of our community. You may like to remember by name those within your own church who are involved in BCA.
