Pentecost Banquet

by Rosemary Findlater

If Pentecost is a time for the Holy spirit, much joy and tongues chatting, the feast at the Day Centre was the epitome of it. Organised by Churches Together in Barnes for the elderly and particularly the housebound members of our community, Graham Pulham of the Baptist Church opened the proceedings with a very funny story about a hungry, grizzly bear, and of course the pre-lunch prayer. It was clearly greatly enjoyed by all who came (fully subscribed with over 80 people and absolutely no spare seats), with the added bonus of Fergus and Deirdre O'Kelly singing and a poem enacted by Jane Sherwin. The whole day was organised by Cathie Sacré with a large and enthusiastic team of helpers (which included a host of taxi drivers from all our churches and some spectacularly speedy and efficient washers up); and in spite of a few mishaps, all appeared to run like clockwork and everyone left feeling and looking as if they had had a really lovely time.
