Volunteers needed.....The six Churches Together in Barnes (CTiB) are planning a Visiting Bereavement Service. We would like to recruit volunteer bereavement visitors to attend six training sessions, which will start on Wednesday 19th September 2007. The aim of the training is to equip them with skills, knowledge, and understanding to be a resource and support to people at the time of bereavement. This is to start a bereavement visiting service in Barnes. The training will be conducted by the Rev'd Judith Roberts, Rosemary Hurry and Katherine Phillips (all three of whom are experienced in counselling and bereavement work), together with a hospital chaplain and some members of the local clergy. The sessions will be held in the Methodist Church rooms, Station Road Barnes, every Wednesday for six weeks, with a two week break for half term. Dates will be:
The training programme is free. Initially the coordination with the clergy, the trainers and the volunteers will be with Katherine. All potential volunteers should speak with Rosemary (8878 3811) or Katherine (8408 0133) prior to the course. The training will introduce volunteer bereavement visitors to enhanced listening skills, the effects of various bereavements, and the support and resources which can be offered to those experiencing loss and grief. Counselling supervision will be offered to all volunteers. We anticipate that no volunteer will have more than one client at a time. We cannot of course guarantee that every volunteer will have a client. Prior to the course, could all potential volunteers please call Rosemary
(8878 3811) or Katherine (8408 0133), and mention any recent bereavements
suffered. This course would be an appropriate follow-on for those who
have done pastoral visitor training recently, however this is not a
precondition. |
